Whether you are completely refurbishing your home or would like to make it look a bit more significant, there are a few Interior Design Tips and Tricks which we designers use that you can easily do at home with minimal effort yet these can make a significant difference to a room. We have outlined some of those tips and tricks below which will instantly make a difference to the space and give it a fresher feel and look.

Painting a room is possibly the easiest and most common way to transform any space however a different approach to that would be to create a feature wall rather than re-painting all four walls. A feature wall is a fantastic way to create a focal point within a room drawing attention to the area of the room you would like to focus on, whether it be a fireplace or a piece of art placing it on a feature wall adds a more significant appeal and look.

In the photograph below you can see we have used a feature wallpaper  within a dining room to add a more interesting look to the dark toned scheme. An effective way to add a feature wall is using a patterned or contrasting wallpaper, it breaks up a room and creates character within a space.

In some cases the smallest things can have the greatest impact, it could be something as simple as an addition of a mirror, painting or even a lamp. It is no secret that a well-placed mirror within a small space can make the room appear much vaster but also enhances good views.

A piece of a unique artwork or a statement rug can also instantly transform the theme of the room. It is a very smart way to add a splash of colour especially when working with a neutral space.

Lighting is often neglected however can be a very powerful tool to enhance the overall presentation of the room , in addition it has a big impact on the mood of the room.  If possible having a few light sources can be effective to set different moods, task lighting might be used on daily basis however having a chandelier and lamps allows for dimmed lighting options adding a warmer feel to the room.

A substantial chandelier over a dining table or even a pair of table lamps on a console table can give a room a designer feel.  Lamp shades are so versatile and come in all shapes and sizes making them great pieces to dress a room.

Accessorising and adding small details within a room can dress what may feel like an empty space, items such as vast vases , trays or ornaments work great if well displayed on taller surfaces such as a sideboard or console tables and can add small focal points within a space.
