Situated in the picturesque village of Stoke Row, just outside Henley-on-Thames, this barn-style new build was delivered as a development project in collaboration with Bentier Homes. Designed to sit harmoniously within its rural surroundings, the architecture takes cues from traditional agricultural forms, reinterpreted to create a refined and contemporary country home.
Our role was to shape the interior framework from the outset, ensuring the property would appeal to the market while remaining sensitive to its village setting.
A Calm, Country-Inspired Palette
As the property was sold off plan and never furnished, the focus was on creating a beautifully resolved backdrop through finishes and fixed elements alone. We developed a neutral palette that complemented the country aesthetic — warm whites, soft taupes and natural timber tones layered with subtle texture to avoid a stark or overly modern feel.
The intention was to provide a timeless canvas: understated, elegant and versatile enough to allow the eventual purchaser to furnish and personalise the home according to their own vision.
Architectural Integrity & Practical Planning
Careful attention was given to the internal layout to ensure the flow of spaces felt intuitive and well-proportioned. Open-plan living areas were designed to balance volume with warmth, while more private rooms were configured to maximise comfort and functionality.
Bespoke joinery and thoughtfully specified finishes enhanced both practicality and cohesion, ensuring that even without furniture, the property felt complete, refined and considered.
A Contemporary Country Home
The finished result is a property that feels entirely at ease within its village context — characterful yet refined, practical yet elegant. By carefully balancing architectural integrity with thoughtful interior planning, we delivered a home that maximises space, embraces its rural surroundings and offers a warm, timeless setting for modern family life.
